Revised Acas Code of Practice on Disciplinary and Grievance Procedures
The Acas Code of Practice on Disciplinary and Grievance Procedures has been recently revised. The amendment is minor but it reflects an Employment Appeal Tribunal Judgment that ruled that the Code of Practice did not reflect the law accurately regarding an employee's choice of companion.

The Code now says that an employee has an absolute right to request his/her choice of trade union representative or workplace colleague to accompany him/her, provided the request to be accompanied is itself reasonable. This means that employees can choose anyone to accompany them provided they fall into the statutory categories and you cannot object unless the request itself is unreasonable - e.g. the individual is located on another geographically remote site.
