New DBS Checking System - Update Service
If you are not already aware, the Criminal Records Bureau (CRB) and the Independent Safeguarding Authority (ISA) have merged into the Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS). CRB checks are now called DBS checks.

On 17 June 2013, the DBS is launching a new service, called the Update Service which is designed to help employers ensure that the information they have remains up to date. This means that individuals can subscribe to this service by paying an annual fee of £13 which will keep their DBS certificate up to date so that they can take it with them from role to role within the same workforce where the same type and level of check is required.

If an individual has subscribed to the Update Service their employer will be able to go online, with the individual's consent, and carry out a free, instant check to find out if the information released on the DBS certificate is current and up to date. See www.gov.uk/government/publications/dbs-update-service-employer-guide for more information.
