Agricultural Wages Board (AWB)
If you run a business covered by the AWB, you will know that it sets terms and conditions to protect workers in the agricultural sector. However, the Government has proposed to abolish the body, but this proposal is to be incorporated into the public sector reform bill which has yet to be published and go through the parliamentary process (which may take up to autumn 2011.) So whilst there are rumours of its demise, it is still there for the moment and may yet be in place for another year. If it is abolished, workers currently covered by the AWB will then only be protected by the National Minimum Wage and Working Time regulations as they apply to workers in other sectors.
