How to Make Appraisals Work for You
In some cases, businesses can create very complex appraisal processes. Unfortunately, when this happens, the process itself can end up being the focus, rather than the feedback to the employee. Indeed almost 25% of respondents to the Investors in People survey referred to above, believed their manager saw their annual review purely as a 'tick-box' exercise, while 19% believed that their manager only thought about the appraisal once they were in the room.

This does not generate the right attitude: both parties - the manager and the employee need to approach appraisal discussions in a positive and constructive manner to make them worthwhile.

Training your managers how to conduct appraisal discussions can also increase the likelihood of success.
