All change in employment practices – but not for quite some time!
The Government has published its response to the Taylor Review of modern working practices. The headlines implied that almost all of Matthew Taylor’s 53 recommendations have been accepted and you might be forgiven for thinking that change is imminent. However, that is not quite the case…

Before this happens, the government has said that it wants to have a public consultation on the following aspects before it thinks some more about whether they can make the changes and indeed what form they may take.

The four main consultations currently open are on:

1. Enforcement of employment rights;
2. Agency worker proposals;
3. Measures to increase transparency in the UK labour market; and
4. Employment status.

They can be found at:

After that the responses will be considered and the government will publish its response to the consultation. There might be more consultation or they may then publish draft legislation – but on past performance this is likely to take years. So do not hold your breath; it will be quite some time before any reforms in employment status may happen.
